Sarasola Bridge, Donostia San Sebastián

If we had to highlight a hallmark of San Sebastian relevant to the design of a bridge, we will need to mention its pedestrian and bicycle paths system. The city has reinforced a unique culture that defends sustainable mobility and friendly manners to citizens. Compared to the municipal proposal to replace an old bridge in which all traffics are mixed, we propose a radical separation of pedestrian and cycling from cars, with two objectives: first, to separate noise and hazards and secondly, to reduce the gradient slope with a longer itinerary which also connects the Egia area to the river promenade to make it fully ADA. The intense experience of crossing the river without car traffic brings the act of crossing to a different level. Both structures meet in a single point, used as a structural element and support. This character will be reinforced with both viewpoints in the entry and exit to look over the river and the city.

Puente Sarasola sobre el Urumea, Donostia San Sebastián

San Sebastián ha apostado por una movilidad fundamentada en una red ciclable y peatonal. Así, frente a la simple sustitución del tablero actual por otro mejorado, se propone la separación del peatón y la bicicleta con un doble propósito: por un lado, separarlos del ruido y del tráfico, y por otro, unir de manera más natural el barrio de Egia con el paseo fluvial. La experiencia singular de acercarse y alejarse, fortalecerá esta idea, que tiene su máxima tensión en el único apoyo sobre el río, donde ambos tableros se unen. Este carácter se verá reforzado a la entrada y a la salida de la pasarela con dos miradores sobre el río y la ciudad.
